Varsity Baseball

The Wildcat Baseball team had their first game on Tuesday where they stomped on the Silver High Colts 10-0. “This is the best season opener that the Cats have had in a while” said Head Coach Holguin. The team combined for 13 hits in only 4 ½ innings of play. Pitcher Fernie Munoz started the game and had 5 strikeouts in only 2 innings of play, James Palomarez had 4 strikeouts while pitching 2 innings, and Creighton Apodaca had 2 strikeouts during the last inning. The DHS Baseball team has a great bullpen with good arms. Apodaca and Munoz both drove home a pair of runs. Deming High ESports

ESports has grown a lot in the past 10 years and is now the number one paying sport in the world. With this much money being made from playing games why wouldn’t you want into the gaming business. With the growth of the industry there is no suprie that the NMAA (New Mexico Athletes Association) has now added gaming or ESports to the list of school sports. The games that New Mexico offers are League of Legends, Smite, and Rocket League. The DHS ESports team has 10 players and have had 2 matches already. The game they played was rocket league and lost 40-7 against Onate. Sponsor Jaramillo says the Onate team has experience with the game and is nothing the team should be ashamed about. Gaming is a lot more than just playing the game but they will have to work together, strategize, and after matches they will watch film to see how they could improve. Students can actually get scholarships for ESports with 2 universities in New Mexico, which are NMSU and UNM.
